Wednesday Wisdom- Classroom Library

I am linking up with Primary Possibilities today to share how I organize my classroom library!

As you look at my snapshots of my library set-up from last year, you may have an idea of how I create my classroom library… Man, I wish I took more pictures last school year!!! It may not be perfect, but it serves its purpose! I created an accessible "book nook" where shelves sat around a large golden carpet (this served as the focal point of my classroom). I sat on a little wooden stool that could be easily moved out of the way when needed! By creating a designated place for students to sit, read, and find reading materials, I found that it kept my kiddos excited about the reading process! My books were in inexpensive clear bins that I purchased from Home Depot. I have three of these shelves (only showing two here) that my uncle kindly made for me! I sort my books into four different categories: guided reading levels, books series, favorite authors, and genres (poetry, nonfiction, fairytale, and so on)!
My firsties absolutely loved Arthur, Clifford, Little Critter, Froggy, Fancy Nancy, and Biscuit book series! I will hopefully (if I splurge on MORE books) add Amelia Bedelia, Pete the Cat, and Splat the Cat this year. I also featured well-loved authors such as Eric Carle, Mo Willems, Dr. Seuss, and Kevin Henkes. Planning to add Gail Gibbons and Lois Ehlert to this mix too!
The pic below is from our nonfiction writing- animal reports! I got these colorful bins for a dollar each at the Dollar Tree!!! For those of you who do not have room set aside for a book nook, I would highly recommend using these as a moveable, yet organized classroom library.
